AIR SEX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The time for you to lose your air virginity is NOW.

Last year, The World Air Sex Championships erupted prematurely…oh, it erupted alright, all over the historic Middle East Nightclub- but this year, we’re really digging in for a pounding.

Never been to an Air Sex show before?

Here’s what you need to know: it’s a lot like Air Guitar, but instead of rocking out with an imaginary guitar, you’re making sweet and/or filthy love with an imaginary sex partner. You choose a clip of music, you show up in whatever sort of wardrobe you like, and you come up on stage and show everyone how you do it. Or how you wish you could do it. Or how you once had it done to you, and oh my god was that a bad idea and while it’s embarrassing to show that act to a room of strangers, you know that you need to do it now in order to make sure that no one else falls down the same rabbit hole you got stuck inside. Or, you know, just do it however you want. The only rules we have are the laws laid down by the state we’re in. Since most Air Sex venues serve alcohol, you can’t get naked.

And since some also serve food, all orgasms have to be simulated (or at least arguably so). Other than that, you’re free to do whatever it takes to impress the judges, the audience in the theater, and the world! If you’re interested in competing please contact chris@airsexworldchampionships.com

I know most of you don’t dabble much in the Jazz world, but I KNOW a lot of you could have used some good mentoring or you wouldn’t be in this crazy business (Lord knows I could have used it myself) which is why I’m sending this to you, a benefit event, a gala if you will that really could use some lovin’ to benefit an organization that provides said mentoring to young boys in need – if you have any space in your column or your show or your blog to give this a little plug or a shove that’d be well – swell! Rather than telling them to do things differently, they need men who will listen to them and just be there for them, and accept their journey--the faults, the grace and the glory."

“REHAB” TO PLAY SHOW AT THE MIDDLE EAST ON FEBRUARY 13, 2012

Georgia band Rehab is bringing their eclectic mix of southern rock, country and hip hop to Cambridge.

Cambridge, MA (January 10, 2012) – Rehab will bring their high-energy “Gullible’s Travels” tour to Cambridge’s The Middle East on February 13, 2012. DID YOU MISS WILL HOGE AT JOHNNY D'S 11/11/11?

Hey Lovers – didn’t make it out to see Will Hoge at Johnny D’s on Friday? Well aside from being lame (or maybe you were at one of our other shows) you missed quite a party! It’s abundantly clear that I’ve got to get a better camera phone if I’m gonna do things like this, but Will Hoge’s amazingness shines through even my crappy pix!

It was a full moon and almost 300 of our closest friends converged on the intimate confines of Johnny D’s in Davis Square for the awesome, no frills, whiskey soaked, righteous testification that is a Will Hoge show, and Will didn’t let us down! I’m sure he is accustomed to being compared to Bruce Springsteen, but since both of us weren’t even a glint in our father’s eyes when Springsteen was coming up in clubs I can only imagine that Will Hoge is the closest experience to a young Springsteen that we are gonna get.

Fantastic songwriting, with just a hint of Nashville twang (after all Will is from Nashville), a voice that is big and round, yet somehow sounds like he gargled a furious brew of whiskey and saniflush, Will is bringing back honest meat and potatoes rock n’ roll hard. Something that I really enjoy that so many bands just do not do, and something that really in my mind separates great performers from weak ones is DYNAMICS. Will’s got ‘em in spades. He can take the band from loud and proud down to a whisper and back, and he knows when to kick it up a notch or dial it back. So few performers really have a handle on that, and to me, aside from his palette of great songs is one of the big reasons why Will’s been able to keep it going and growing, and will continue to have a long career on his own terms.

In a show full of highlights they saved the best for last, jumping off the stage and sitting in the middle of the crowd for a little fireside howl along of “Highway’s Home”. This was taken on an EVO 3D – probably the best thing it does is video. I got goosebumps being there, hope you enjoy:

And now without further ado, my crappy blackberry pix. The EVO 3D pix were even worse so I didn’t bother to post any of those. It might just be time for an IPhone!

We all got a great laugh when Will’s sleeve got caught up in the keyboard and he had to start a song all over. He had to start it over AGAIN after Adam, his guitarist made an obscenely loud buzzing noise. The way an artist handles these things with humor and just keeps rolling is another marker of greatness!

I somehow managed to white out Will’s face as he jumped on top of a monitor – trying to catch that ever elusive rock n’ roll moment, but I’m posting it here because maybe I can get away with calling it “ART”.

“Those of you who came here to grab a bite to eat and see the show from your seats are probably complaining about how it’s so damned loud!”

This one’s just so rock n’ roll I had to include it!

My favorite is still “Carousel”, his first studio album, raw brash, proud and full of good songs, produced by Dan Baird of GA Satellites, but you can’t go wrong with any of his work, and since Spotify is free you’ve got no excuses!
